Robyn & margaret present…

Robyn & Margaret present… theatre shows that explore aspects of queer identity through song, puppetry, dance, ritual and manic humour. Each show takes an idea loosely by the hand on a journey of discovery and obfuscation. In a ‘performance as ritual’, Robyn & Margaret, a group of musicians, dancers, some puppets, and an array of amazing guests, help audiences to shed the responsibility they have for being something solid, and allow them to contemplate the ambiguity and mercurial reality of being.

About Robyn & Margaret

Robyn & Margaret’s performances are surreal encounters steeped unrelentingly in British comedy. Their live musical shows swing between genres; jazz standard ballads crooned by fetishised puppets, funk grooves of shame and regret, and walloping punk songs delivered by angry spirits. These shows are always inclusive events, charging audiences with a warm feeling of a shared journey into their queer souls. Currently based at The Bethnal Green Working Mens’ Club. Death & Dressing Up

Let Robyn & Margaret sing you some songs, tell you some stories, and introduce you to a few fated friends as they slip into their funereal wardrobe and die.

For part one of our trip into some other ways and worlds, Robyn and Margaret invite you to join us for a night of death. It’s not all sad, and it’s not final. We’ll lose a few, but gain a lot more along the way.

Kayfabing the never visible

Kayfabing the never visible

Robyn, in shiny silver leggings and pink high-heels, grimaces with the strain of keeping her rival wrestler, the spirit of the ring wearing shiny gold leggings a gold mask and tasselled thigh boots, in a half-nelson.

Wrestling their live band, dance troupe and entourage of puppets, Robyn & Margaret hit the ring for round two of their anarchic series.

Kayfabing means blurring the line between truth and fiction, so pull on your lycra, leave behind whatever you thought was real and join the brawl!

Set up your angles, pick your faces, heels and tweeners; no smarts, no smarks, no gas; a collection of stiffs, swerves, spots, served up by exóticos, monsters, technicians; someone’s gonna get a job, let’s meet our inner marks. Kayfabe the Never-Visible!

You know about my hair

Be greeted and seated as we return for our appointment with a salon of live musicians, dancers and puppets. The third part of the anarchic series arrives bearing a comb, a brush and some directionless conversation about your hols.

Chapter three of Robyn & Margaret’s BGWMC residency finds them contemplating our fuzz. Too much, too little, wrong colour, wrong place! Coiffure your imagination and join us for a weave of song, comedy, music and dance.

…in one end and out the other…

Consume and be consumed by Robyn & Margaret as they invasively burrow into part four of their anarchic series. Live music and special guests are sucked in one end, absurdity oozes out the other. It’s time for us to embrace our inner nematode!

The ins the outs and the others gather for chapter four of Robyn & Margaret’s BGWMC residency, worming their way in and out of every hole. Dreaming and living, hearing and forgetting, laughing inside, crying outside, drinking pee and peeing drink. Pucker up your orifices for a feast of song, comedy, music and dance.

There is NO ONE

in the world

more fit than myself

to be laughed at!

Prepare to be stitched up all over as Robyn & Margaret return for the splitting of sides and the falling off of heads. With a tiny car full of live musicians, dancers and puppets, part five of the anarchic series will deliver punchlines and slap thighs until you die laughing!

For chapter five of Robyn & Margaret’s BGWMC residency the joke is on us as we laugh hard and long at our failings and misdemeanours. Let’s cry with laughter, or laugh till we cry as we dislocate our funny bones and laugh in the grim face of death.

Laundry day

The day has finally arrived for us to produce our dirty undies and have a ruddy good scrub! The sixth part of Robyn & Margaret’s spin-cycle pulls on the rubber gloves and contemplates the source of our stains.

For chapter six of Robyn & Margaret’s BGWMC residency we will be filling the steamy bucket with a basketful of our accumulated soiled garments. Let’s rhythmically cleanse our smalls, whiten our whites, brighten our colours and sponge our suspenders.
