You know about my hair.
Hair is a big deal in our world. These strands of protein define us, elate us, arouse us and depress us. The stories of hair, particularly for queer people, are often ones about control and a lack of control. Some people have more hair than they want, some not enough, some it’s all in the wrong place! You know about my hair doesn’t look at any of this directly, instead it embraces the madness of our obsession with this vestigial part of our body. Opening with the title track, a repeated lament “You know about my hair. Fragments of people in my hair.”, the show culminates in an erotic “hairlesque” dance by Robyn Herfellow. In between we just set peoples’ minds wandering and wondering. The show was developed from an earlier incarnation entitled Invisible Salon, an intimate cabaret set in a pop-up hair salon, where stories were traded and wigs were made. The show celebrates the power of hair to unite people (think about the determination and importance of afro-culture, the hippy movement, bearded bears and giant drag wigs), and contemplates the troubled short-back-and-sides too.
